Overview


The City of Chanhassen operates under a council-manager form of government. Under this structure, the elected mayor and city council are responsible for all policy decisions affecting the city. The implementation of council policies and the general administration of city operations are the responsibility of the city manager.

City Manager


The city manager provides leadership, direction and guidance to all city departments, which include Finance, Community Development, Engineering and Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Police, and Fire. Todd Gerhardt was appointed City Manager in August of 2001. Prior to his designation as city manager, he served as the assistant city manager for 15 years. Todd is a graduate of Mankato State University with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.

Administration Duties


The administration department is also responsible for economic development initiatives, monitors the annual budget, elections, preparation of city council packets, and ensuring that all who visit during regular business hours receive the services they need.
