Pet Licensing
The City of Chanhassen does not require pet licenses, but both cats and dogs are required to have some identification on them that would assist animal control in contacting the owner. Types of identification include microchips, veterinarian-issued rabies tags, or any tags or collars with contact information and phone numbers inscribed on them.

Rabies Vaccinations
All dogs and cats over six months of age and kept as a pet are required to be vaccinated against rabies.

Kennel Permit
Any household with more than two (2) dogs, more than three (3) cats or any combination of four (4) or more dogs or cats over six (6) months of age is required to obtain a private kennel permit.

Private Kennel Permit

Commercial Kennel Permits
  • $25 application fee
  • The property will be inspected to ensure it meets all city code requirements.
  • The city will place an ad in the Chanhassen Villager announcing that an application has been received and that residents have ten days to comment on the request.
