Part-Time or Seasonal Positions

Youth Tennis Instructor: Plans, coordinates, and instructs a comprehensive tennis lesson program using USTA guidelines and curriculum.  Responsible for teaching all levels of tennis ranging from beginners to intermediate ages 4 – 12.  Lessons are taught at the Chanhassen Recreation Center.  For more information, call Mitch Johnson at 952-227-1122.

Qualifications:  Must be at least 17 years of age and have experience playing or coaching organized and competitive tennis.  Must possess strong communication and organizational skills.

Saturdays in May
9:00am – 12:00pm
$15 per hour


Playground Director: Temporary seasonal position runs 30-40 hours per week from the end of May through August 17. Under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor. Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates the overall Summer Discovery Playground Program. Responsible for the day-to-day and overall program planning and activities. Recruits, trains, supervises, and schedules playground staff. 

Qualifications: Must be a college student or graduate in the field of parks and recreation, elementary education, or a related field. Must be CPR certified by June 4. For more information, contact Mitch Johnson at 952-227-1122.

Mondays-Fridays, 30-40 hours/week
Late May through August 17
Must be able to work July 2-4
Starting Salary: $13 per hour


Playground Leaders: Temporary, seasonal position running from June through August 17 for 20-30 hours per week. Under the general supervision of the Playground Director. Provides leadership and direction in planning and implementing the Summer Discovery Playground Program. 

Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years of age and possess a genuine desire to work with youth ages 3-12 in an outdoor recreation setting. Must be CPR certified by June 4. For more information, contact Mitch Johnson at 952-227-1122.

Mondays-Fridays, 20-30 hours/week
June thru August 17
Must be able to work July 2-4
Starting Salary: $8 per hour


Concession Worker: Coordinate rental agreements for boats and other recreation equipment, dispensing food and drink; operating a cash register; general upkeep of the concession building; and taking daily inventories at the Lake Ann Park concession stand. 

Skills: Motivated and flexible individual with strong people skills, including the ability to deal with the public effectively and professionally. Some physical work and lifting required.

Salary: $8-9 per hour


Park Maintenance: Responsible for lawn mowing, weed whipping, ball field maintenance, garbage collection, and general park maintenance. 

Qualifications: Applicants must be at least 18 years old and the position requires a current drivers license and knowledge of lawn mower care. The position begins mid-April, or as soon as possible thereafter, through September.

Park Intern: The City of Chanhassen is offering a student internship in the Park and Recreation Department. The student will assist with the administration, supervision, and leadership of all recreation and leisure-oriented activities. 

Qualifications: Must be at least a senior in park and recreation studies, have completed the necessary requirements with their respective college or university, and possess strong communication and organizational skills.

Duties and Responsibilities: To follow the regulations and policies of the city, to perform all given work assignments, to be a good example and positive representative of the Chanhassen Park & Recreation Department, and perform any other duties related to the internship experience as required by the supervisor.

Softball Umpires Needed: USSSA certified umpires are needed for Chanhassen's adult softball leagues that play spring through fall. There are opportunities to umpire many games, or to substitute occasionally.
