2009 Park & Recreation Volunteer Service Award Winners
The Park & Recreation Volunteer Service Awards are provided by the City of Chanhassen to recognize individuals, businesses, community groups or school groups for their contributions to the community. These awards are designed not only to recognize achievement, but also to enhance the lives of our citizens through giving of themselves.
Resident Group: Juggbros - Brett & Blake Szalapski
The Juggbros are brothers whose main focus is teaching kids how to juggle and entertain crowds of people. During the past year, the Juggbros voluntarily taught classes to children and performed at the Summer Discovery Playground Program, the Penny Carnival, the Fourth of July Celebration, and the Senior Center picnic. Their performances have been enjoyed by a large number of our residents and staff appreciates the ability to use local performers in our recreation program offerings.

Business Group: The Mustard Seed Landscaping & Garden Center
The Mustard Seed Landscaping & Garden Center has been a Gold Sponsor of our annual community special events for the past four years. Not only has The Mustard Seed contributed financially, but they have volunteered their time and resources to other community events. They donate and coordinate Santa Claus, his head elf, and a real live reindeer for the Tree Lighting Ceremony. They also are active in the SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce and have volunteered at the Fourth of July Celebration and the Home & Garden Expo. Additionally, they are involved with various projects with St. Hubert's Catholic Community, Eastern Carver County School District 112, and many other service projects.

Community Groups & Organizations: The Chanhassen Lions Club
The Chanhassen Lions Club was chartered in 1988 and since then has been involved in many community activities. Most recently, the club volunteered for the annual Halloween Party (which they have done for several years); but has also focused a lot of their attention to the Chanhassen Senior Center. They contributed financially to the 15th Anniversary calendars, the Senior Center community open house, and have sponsored their annual picnic for the past five years. In 2009, 125 seniors participated in the annual picnic. Their involvement in the picnic includes set-up, purchasing and cooking the food, and arranging for entertainment. The Lions Club has had a long history of being involved in the Chanhassen community and the city is appreciative of their service.

Groups Representing District 112 & 276 Schools: Greg Drewiske & Danny Hatton
Greg Drewiske is a junior at Chanhassen High School and Danny Hatton is a senior at Chaska High School. During this past year, both provided instructional support for a Chanhassen Park & Recreation Youth Football program. The program was for children in grades 1-3 and ran for five weeks. Both young men provided instruction on football skills that will improve participant's knowledge of the game. Our city's park and recreation department certainly has benefitted from utilizing talented community members to assist with our youth programs.
