Neighborhood Crime Watch
The Neighborhood Crime Watch Program is the most effective way to prevent crime and reduce fear in a neighborhood. The program strengthens relationships between law enforcement and the community, encourages communication among neighbors, and educates citizens on crime prevention and reporting procedures.
The program creates a direct link to law enforcement. Watch members are kept informed of crime trends through the distribution of crime alerts by their designated block coordinator, who is linked to the Chanhassen Neighborhood Watch Crime Alert E-mail Program. To organize a Crime Watch in your neighborhood, call 952-227-1610.

National Night Out -- Click HERE for 2010 National Night Out Information
Keeping Chanhassen a safe community is a partnership effort. National Night Out (NNO) supports this effort by reminding citizens that their involvement is vital in building a strong and safe community.
Each year, the City of Chanhassen joins thousands of communities nationwide in observing National Night Out. NNO is designed to:
- Heighten crime prevention awareness
- Promote neighborliness
- Strengthen police/community relationships
Celebrated annually on the first Tuesday in August, community leaders encourage residents to join their neighbors in observing NNO by attending an organized event in their neighborhood, such as a block party. Carver County deputies and city representatives attempt to visit all participating neighborhoods.

Safety Camp -- Click HERE for 2010 Safety Camp Information
The Chanhassen Safety Camp is a one-day annual event held in the summer. The program is designed for children ages 8-10 years. Safety Camp teaches children hands-on safety skills. The program is structured to help bridge the gap between youth and public safety personnel, by having police officers and firefighters serve as presenters and team leaders. Safety topics include bicycle, in-line skating, water, fire, street smarts and staying drug free. A lesson is given on understanding people with disabilities and recognizing individual talents. Watch for details in the Chanhassen Connection, or call 952-227-1610.
Bicycle Helmet Sale - Seasonal
Each spring, low-cost bicycle helmets may be purchased at City Hall in the Building Inspections and Law Enforcement Department. This program runs from April through June. The helmets meet safety standards set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and come in a variety of colors. Sizes range from toddler to adult extra-large, depending on availability. Price is $10.00. Based on product demand, availability of helmet color and sizes will fluctuate during the program. If you need more information, call 952-227-1180 or drop by Monday-Friday, 8 am-4:00 pm.
FREE Child Safety Seat Inspections Available to Chanhassen Residents
It is estimated that 80-90% of child safety seats are not used correctly. A child buckled up incorrectly may be injured not only in a crash but also from a sudden stop. To assist parents with becoming knowledgeable on the proper installation of a child safety seat, the City of Chanhassen offers free car seat inspections to residents. Contact Beth Hoiseth at 952-227-1610 for information or to schedule an inspection.
Project LeadFoot
Are you concerned about traffic safety in your neighborhood? The key to traffic safety is voluntary compliance with traffic laws and safe driving principles. The key to developing and maintaining safe driving in neighborhoods is resident support and involvement. In cooperation with neighborhood residents and the Carver County Sheriff's Office, the City of Chanhassen has implemented Project LeadFoot, a community approach to calming speed and enhancing traffic safety on neighborhood streets. Project LeadFoot promotes neighborhood traffic safety by empowering citizens through involvement. For a complete overview of the project, click HERE (please note that this file is in .pdf format. It may be necessary for you to download the free Adobe reader to access it). For additional information, call 952-227-1610.
