Leaf Scorch
It's common for new trees to show some signs of stress. Hot, windy conditions can cause young, new leaves to dry out too quickly. This condition is called leaf scorch.
During this kind of weather, it’s extremely important that you give your tree deep waterings. This only needs to be done occasionally (every week or two). Irrigate so that water penetrates deep into the root zone. Short, frequent watering intervals do not produce a deep, strong, root system or good tree health. A slow, deep soaking of the soil/root zone is required. It is important to wet the soil to a depth of 1 to 1½ feet. Frequent lawn watering only wets the soil to a depth of a few inches. Use a slow trickle from the garden hose over several hours. Do not let the water collect, it needs to soak in slowly. Mulching, to prevent grass and weed competition for water is also highly recommended.
