Building Permits
The City of Chanhassen has adopted the 2007 Minnesota State Building Code, which adopts the 2006 International Building and Residential Codes, with amendments by reference. General contractors (or homeowners doing their own work) must obtain permits before beginning work. If you are unsure if your project requires a permit, please call the Building Inspection Division at 952-227-1180, or email Jerry Mohn, Building Official. Many projects require a detailed plan review, so allow at least ten working days for your permit to be processed. If your submittal documents require corrections, or if it is incomplete, it may take longer. Fees are paid at the time permits are issued.

Building Permits are required for many projects, including, but not limited to, new construction, additions, alterations, decks, finished basements, pools, demolition, roofing, siding, and window replacement. Residential contractors must be licensed by the State of Minnesota
