Community Development
The Community Development Department is divided into three divisions. They include Planning, Inspections and Environmental (water, forestry and recycling).
Planning Division
The Planning division reviews land use plans for consistency with city plans, land use regulations and applicable state regulations. They conduct long-range planning for the future growth of the City. They also administer land use control ordinances and zoning enforcement. The Planning division is the staff to the Planning Commission. They also provide staff support to the Senior Commission and the Southwest Metro Transit Commmission.
The Inspections division is responsible for providing health, safety, and welfare of the city through the administration of building and fire codes. They are responsible for the plan review, permit issuance and inspections of buildings, plumbing and mechanical systems, fire sprinkler and alarm systems, and individual sewage treatment systems.
The Water Resources Coordinator directs the city’s response to drainage, water quality and quantity, and wetland issues. They implement and support projects and programs in the city’s Surface Water Management Program. The Environmental Resources Coordinator directs the city’s recycling program and forestry programs. Both coordinators are staff to the Environmental Commission.
