Space is limited. Registration and more information at www.metroblooms.org or by calling 651-699-2426.

Raingarden Workshop and Design Studio
Thursday, March 11
6:00 - 9:00 pm
Chanhassen City Hall Senior Center (lower level)
7700 Market Boulevard

Workshop participants will receive one-on-one assistance with raingarden design from a landscape design assistant, and be eligible for low-cost on-site consultation and design services.

Brief Workshop Summaries

Raingarden Workshop and Design Studio - $10
This three-hour workshop provides an overview of raingardens, plus assistance from Landscape Design Assistants and Master Gardeners in planning a raingarden, including plant selection. Homework will be assigned in advance.

On-Site Consultations - $50
Workshop attendees are eligible to sign-up for a $50 On-Site Consultation. In this one-hour session, a Landscape Design Assistant visits your property and assists with identifying stormwater issues on the property, taking measurements, determining the size and location of a raingarden, and plant selection. Consultations are advisory only - Landscape Design Assistants won't be digging or assisting with installation.

Raingarden Design and Stormwater Management Plan - $50
For an additional $50 fee, our Landscape Design Assistant will supplement an onsite consultation with a stormwater management plan and raingarden design. These detailed renderings created by our Landscape Design Assistants will provide a lasting plan for managing stormwater on the site beyond what can be done with a raingarden. The customized raingarden design will include design features and specifications including measurements and plant selections.

2010 Raingarden Workshops
Detailed Workshop Description

Raingarden Workshop and Design Studio
This workshop combines the content of Metro Blooms "Part A" and "Part B" workshops into a fast-paced and focused three-hour format designed to move participants quickly from an overview of raingardens and their benefits to a completed raingarden design for their property.

Attendees will be assigned homework prior to the workshop, and will arrive with basic information about a proposed raingarden project. The first half of the session includes an overview of raingardens, and the basics of raingarden design, installation, and maintenance. During the second portion of the session, attendees will work in small groups with Landscape Design Assistants and Master Gardeners to plan their raingarden projects.

Participants will receive a packet of supporting materials including a step-by-step guide to raingarden installation, information on native plants and native plant suppliers, eco-friendly landscaping tips, where to purchase rainbarrels, and ideas for funding your sustainable landscaping projects.

The cost for the Raingarden Workshop is $10 per household (up to two members), and the workshop can accommodate up to 50 participants.

Workshop Presenters

Michael Keenan
Michael is Metro Blooms' Lead Landscape Designer. Now in his third year with Metro Blooms, Michael will complete a Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture in May, having already received awards and recognition for his designs. In addition to leading workshops, Michael oversees all raingarden construction for Metro Blooms.

Master Gardeners are community volunteers trained by county extension agricultural agents. Once they complete their training, Master Gardeners provide hands-on training for home gardeners, clubs, and other organizations. For our Raingarden Workshop and Design Studio, we try to have one master gardener on hand for every five participants.

Landscape Design Assistants (LDAs)
Our Landscape Design Assistants are generally students or graduates of the University of Minnesota's Masters Program in Landscape Architecture. For our design workshops, we try to have one Landscape Design Assistant on hand for every five participants.
