Application
All new residents to the City of Chanhassen need to complete an Application for Utility Services and return it to city hall. This application is necessary to ensure the correct resident is receiving the bills for services rendered at a property located within the City of Chanhassen.
Rental properties will be billed to the property owner, NOT the tenant/renter's name; all accounts must remain in the property owner's name until there is a change in ownership due to a sale.
Questions may be directed to the Utility Billing Department at 952-227-1144, or email utilitybilling@ci.chanhassen.mn.us.

Utility Billing Options
Quarterly Billing with Paper Statements: All accounts are defaulted to this option if no other selection is chosen. Dependent upon which area of the city your property is located, determines which months you receive your quarterly utility bill.
Monthly Billing with Electronic Statements: This option allows a hassle-free option to receiving and paying your utility bill on a monthly basis. Residents who choose this option will receive their utility statements directly into their email inbox and will have the bills paid automatically by an electronic withdrawal from their checking account. The monthly billing option is great for households who like to budget their bills and not have to worry about putting a check in the mail.
Electronic Billing: Selecting this option allows you to receive your utility bill directly into your email inbox. People who receive an electronic bill generally receive their statements up to five days earlier than those who receive paper statements. Residents may sign up for this option with either the quarterly or monthly billing options.
Automatic Payment: This option is available for anyone who is interested in having their utility bill paid by automatic withdrawal from their checking accounts. The payments are made on the due date listed on the bill; which reduces the need for writing a check or logging onto a bank's web site. Residents may sign up for this option with either the quarterly or monthly billing options.
Online Account Access: Access to your utility account is available HERE. First time users must register using their City utility bill. Once registered, residents are able to review utility bills, make payments, and view usage trends for their accounts.
To make changes to how you receive or pay your utility bill, please complete the Application for a Change in Billing form and return it to the City of Chanhassen, Attn: Utility Billing Department. Question may be directed to the Utility Bill line at 952-227-1144 or utilitybilling@ci.chanhassen.mn.us.

0-6,000 gallons per quarter - $1.02 per 1,000 gallons
6,001-24,000 gallons per quarter - $2.04 per 1,000 gallons

- Sewer
First 6,000 gallons - $20.04 (minimum charge)
Over 6,000 gallons - $3.89 per 1,000 gallons of water used
- The flow charge is based on the winter quarter water usage (the winter quarter is the 1st billing of the new year - received at the end of January, February or March)
Quarterly bills also include charges for:
- Stormwater Management
There is also a charge for the stormwater system maintenance. The residential rate is $9.03 per quarter. The commercial/industrial rate is based on lot size and hard-surface coverage, which generates runoff.
- Water Testing Fees
The United States Environmental Protection Agency has mandated more stringent water quality testing procedures throughout the country. The city charges $7.92 per year for every water connection to cover our costs of the increased testing. This testing includes sending random samples to the state every week to be tested for bacteria, and once a year for lead and copper.
