In 2018, the Carver County Board of Commissioners voted to discontinue yard waste collection at the Carver County Environmental Center starting in January 2019. Chanhassen residents can no longer dispose of their yard waste at the facility. The city will not be picking up any storm damaged materials from residences. Homeowners can dispose of yard waste with the following options:
Convenient and Easy - Private Haulers
All residential solid waste haulers operating in Chanhassen offer yard waste disposal to customers. Options include a weekly, seasonal pick up or some may offer an on-call option and pick up yard waste on request. The weekly, seasonal collection offered by haulers runs from April to November and costs a little over $100 for the year. The hauler will provide a yard waste cart and many haulers don't charge for additional bags or bundles of yard waste. For many residents that is a savings considering the time spent going down to Chaska, which can only be done on their limited schedule; dirtying your vehicle and trailer, and time spent waiting in line at the facility. With a private hauler you can just roll out your container to the end of your driveway. Contact your hauler to see what options are available to you.
Neighbors and neighborhoods can also make their streets less busy and less noisy by organizing together and hiring the same private hauler. The city of Chanhassen has a step-by-step guide on how to gather neighbors and select a hauler to service each home. This saves your street from heavy truck traffic, the sight of garbage containers on different days, truck noise, safety issues and may even get you a better deal on your annual garbage costs. Check out the city's Neighborhood Organized Collection guide.
