The adoption of a new franchise fee has allowed the City to invest substantially more in the maintenance and preservation of our local roads, which can be seen from the scope of the 2021 City Pavement Rehabilitation project. This project will incorporate multiple roadway treatments (mill & overlay, full depth reclamation, etc.) depending on the condition of the road for each area, along with minor spot repairs on existing utilities.

A total of seven (7) miles of roadway is proposed to be improved, so the project has been broken up into six areas; the Lake Lucy Road area (east of Powers Boulevard), Choctaw Circle area, Kurvers Point Road area, Marsh Drive area, Redwing Lane area, and the Trappers Pass area. The project is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2021, with work scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2021. Residents that utilize the streets within the project areas will be notified if access is limited.

This project was originally planned for 2020, however In light of recent state funding losses stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic and out of concern for the potential negative economic impact assessments might have on some Chanhassen residents, the City Council voted to postpone the planned road construction project and reassess at a later time.  It is now scheduled to take place during the 2021 construction season.

Project Updates

June 18, 2021

Please see below, under Project Areas, for updated construction dates for each neighborhood area.

June 17, 2021

Lake Lucy Road Area: Reclaiming operations for the road will begin on Monday, June 21st and Tuesday, June 22nd. They will then remove the excess gravel, grade, re-compact, and water the gravel base section the remainder of the week.  Paving of the new bituminous base section is planned to occur on Tuesday, June 29 or Wednesday, June 30.  Topsoil placement, restoration of irrigation systems and pet fences, along with landscaping work will occur mostly after the paving of the base section but some may occur prior to the paving.  Placement of the final lift of bituminous section will occur after the 4th of July. Please have vehicles off the street from 7am to 6pm if possible so they are not potentially in the way when reclaiming, grading, and paving operations are ongoing. Please proceed with caution, slow down, and drive safely.

Redwing Lane Area: Water main work has been completed and no shutoffs of the water main are scheduled moving forward, thank you for your patience. Storm sewer work is ongoing for this week and into next week. Curb and gutter removals will occur at the end of next week and replacement of the curbing is planned for the following week as well as other tasks such as adjusting structures. The Contractor currently plans to hold off milling the bituminous surface until after the 4th of July. Please proceed with caution, slow down, and drive safely.
