Overview
The Carver County Sheriff's Office has permanently installed a receptacle in the lobby of the Building Department at City Hall to accept unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter drugs. For a safe and environmentally friendly way to get rid of old medicines and prescriptions, drop them at the box here or the one in the lobby of the Sheriff's Office in Chaska.
Program Details
What is it?
- The program promotes the safe use, safe storage and safe disposal of unneeded prescription and over-the-counter medications. This includes both human and animal medications along with illegal drugs.
- The Carver County community is serious about preventing medication misuse/abuse and about environmentally safe disposal of unneeded medications.
Why is it important?
- Another growing concern is the abuse, by youth and others, of medications not prescribed to them. Safe disposal makes medicines less available.
- Evidence is increasing of the damage to the environment due to unsafe disposal of medications. Proper disposal helps protect our soil and water.
What do I do?
- Leave medication in the original container.
- Remove your name and other identifying information.
- Leave the name of the medication.
- Drop medication into the disposal box opening.
When is it available?
The medication disposal box is available Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm excluding holidays. A 24-hour disposal box is available at the Carver County Sheriff's office in Chaska.
