The City of Chanhassen is seeking a youth applicant to fill a vacancy on the Environmental Commission. Term is for one year expiring in March 2022 and no prior experience is required to apply. Application forms are available online at www.ci.chanhassen.mn.us/ECyouthapp. Applications will be accepted through Sunday, September 19, 2021 at 4:00 p.m.
Purpose: The Environmental Commission (EC) acts as a citizen outreach and education board for the City Council. Issues addressed by the commission include water quality, forestry, stormwater management, recycling, and water conservation education.
Goals: As a citizen outreach and education commission to the City Council, the EC is responsible for developing an annual public education program that addresses issues facing the city’s natural resources. The commission advocates for the necessity of Chanhassen’s natural environmental and provides residents with opportunities to improve the quality of the city’s outdoor environment and learn more about the natural resources in our community. The commission works to engage the public through multiple communication platforms and hands-on activities.
Responsibilities: Some of the responsibilities of the EC include the following:
Membership: The EC consists of seven adult members and one youth member which are residents. Members of the commission are appointed by the City Council. The youth member is appointed for a one-year term expiring on March 31 of each year. Meetings occur on the second Wednesday of every month at 6:00 p.m. in the Fountain Conference Room at City Hall.
Application Requirements: Applicants for this commission shall be age 16-18, must reside in Chanhassen, be available for an interview with the City Council on Monday, October 11, 2021 starting at 5:30 p.m., and be able to attend the monthly Environmental Commission meetings beginning on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 6:00 p.m.
The City Council will appoint the new member at their regular meeting on Monday, October 25, 2021.
