Dear Chanhassen Residents,The events that have transpired over the past week and a half have brought forward new questions, varying emotions, and most recently, a call to action. Reflecting on the unjust murder, the destruction that followed, as well as the feelings of uncertainty of both people and organizations has made me think deeper about how we move forward together. A friend shared a quote with me, “We cannot change the past, but we can reshape the future” (His Holiness the Dalai Lama) and it is with this principle in mind that the following measures are being taken: - I have invited Carver County Sheriff Jason Kamerud to attend the City Council Meeting on Monday, June 8th at 7pm to discuss the organizational policies and practices of the Carver County Sheriff’s Office. View the agenda and packet HERE.
- The City of Chanhassen, in partnership with the Carver County Sheriff’s Office, will be devising a plan for a “Community Conversation” event. The intent of this collaboration is to listen to and learn from our residents on their experiences and to find ways to ensure everyone in Chanhassen is being served with respect and dignity.
- As Mayor, I am open to meeting with residents and community groups to gain a better understanding of any challenges they are facing in Chanhassen. Email me to arrange at eryan@ci.chanhassen.mn.us.
This is just the beginning. I have great pride and faith in the residents that live here and a profound respect for our law enforcement. This isn’t going to be easy to navigate but working together is something we are good at. I am optimistic that we can learn from the horrific events of this past week and grow stronger as a community. Thank you for the outpouring of comments and ideas. I will look forward to your getting involved and participating with the same passion that you have expressed to me. Warmest Regards, Elise Ryan Mayor
